Vienna's Winning Run Continues in Voitsberg
The Döbling-based club secures a narrow away win against the LigaZwa promoted team, temporarily pulling three points clear of Blau-Weiß Linz.
First Vienna FC remains on a successful course!
The Döbling-based club narrowly prevailed 2-1 away against promoted team ASK Voitsberg in the ninth round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. For Vienna, it is their seventh win of the season and sixth in a row.
Efficiency on Both Sides
The guests from the federal capital took the lead from the penalty spot after a dominant fifteen minutes. Defender Gantschnig calmly converted into the left corner to make it 1-0 for Vienna (16'). Earlier, after a corner, Radics had his leg too high in a challenge, resulting in a penalty.
But the promoted team's response was not long in coming. Jager whipped the ball sharply from the half-space towards the far corner. Because Unger misjudged it and missed the ball, it ended up in the net for 1-1 (20').
Subsequently, Vienna remained highly efficient. After a throw-in, substitute Gruber got a header. The ball kept going longer and sailed into the far corner (30').
No Goals in the Second Half
In the second half, the visitors pressed early for a decisive goal. However, Soukouna was denied by Dmitrovic (48'). Even after that, Vienna had more of the game but failed to score the third goal.
But Voitsberg also lurked for a late equalizer. Brükk had the best chance for that, but his shot lacked power (72').
In the end, it remained 2-1 in favor of Vienna, who thus extended their league lead to three points. However, pursuer Blau-Weiß Linz can draw level again on Saturday.
