Magical eight minutes! Vienna back on top of the table

First Vienna FC takes over the league lead in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, at least provisionally.

On the seventh matchday, the Döbling-based side overturned a deficit against FC Hertha Wels and ultimately secured a clear 3-1 victory.

For Vienna, it is already their fourth consecutive win. Hertha Wels, on the other hand, continues to await their first home win of the season.

Vienna initially struggles

The visitors took command from the start but initially found few ways to create clear scoring chances against the deep-sitting Wels side.

The hosts remained dangerous on quick counter-attacks. After a corner kick, a shot from Tolgahan Sahin was blocked (16').

A setback for Vienna came after almost half an hour with the substitution of striker Bernhard Zimmermann, who had to leave the field due to muscular problems.

Shortly before halftime, Vienna seriously threatened to take the lead for the first time. Bernhard Luxbacher fired a volley from almost 20 meters, but Kilian Schröcker was able to save the attempt (39').

Two minutes later, Maximilian Fillafer sent a cross from Raul Marte to the outside of the net (41'). At the other end, Michael Brugger narrowly missed the goal (42').

Thus, the teams went into halftime with a fair 0-0 score.

Wonder goal puts Wels in the lead

After the change of ends, the match really picked up pace.

Oliver Kregar delivered a real thunderbolt: The Wels left-back took heart from over 20 meters out and struck a perfect shot into the top right corner – 1-0 (47').

Vienna reacted promptly and increased the pressure.

After a corner kick, the ball landed at Youssouf Soukouna's feet, who had the equalizer within reach. However, Schröcker emerged victorious (52').

Just two minutes later, the Frenchman did better. Soukouna, who had come on for the injured Zimmermann, tapped a cross from Raul Marte over the line (54').

Vienna turns the game around

The visitors now remained on the offensive. Luxbacher forced Schröcker into another save with a long-range shot (56').

The subsequent corner kick finally brought the lead. Marco Gantschnig rose highest and headed the ball into the net for 2-1 (57').

Vienna had now tasted blood and pushed for a third goal.

Initially, Fillafer failed to beat Schröcker (61'), but just one minute later, the midfielder did better. With a precise low shot from distance, he beat the Wels keeper and made it 3-1 (62').

Hertha Wels shook themselves off briefly and had their biggest chance to reduce the deficit through Thurnwald. However, the ball hit the crossbar (72').

After a collision in his own penalty area, Wels keeper Schröcker had to receive lengthy treatment in the final minutes; visibly dazed, the 25-year-old left the field (88').

Even in the generous eight minutes of added time, the hosts could not find a consolation goal.

Provisional League Leaders

With this victory, Vienna stands at the top of the table with 16 points, at least provisionally. However, BW Linz (15 points) can overtake them again in the evening match against Admira.

Hertha Wels, on the other hand, also loses its fourth home game of the season and remains stuck at the bottom of the table.
