Austria Salzburg ends Amstetten's unbeaten run
Salzburg secure a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Amstetten – a red card including a penalty for handball shortly before halftime proves decisive.
In the clash of the two table neighbors, Austria Salzburg secures a 3-0 victory over SKU Amstetten to kick off the eleventh round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.
The hosts get off to a perfect start: Simon Pirkl breaks through at the corner flag and serves Christian Gebauer, who scores the early lead with his left foot inside the penalty area (9').
Red Card and Penalty for Handball Prove Decisive
Subsequently, the Lower Austrians take the initiative, creating a multitude of chances, without, however, truly threatening. In contrast, Austria only becomes truly dangerous with a shot from Pirkl (26').
Shortly before halftime, however, the match is decided prematurely. After SKU goalkeeper Tiago Estevao misjudged a corner kick, Lukas Deinhofer could only prevent Raphael Hofer's goal with his arm on the line and was shown a red card for it (45').
Gebauer confidently converts the ensuing penalty to make it a 2-0 halftime lead.
Crnkic extends lead to 3-0 after the break
In the second half, the shorthanded visitors take more risks and are punished for it in the 55th minute: After an attack, Amstetten had pushed far up, and the Salzburg side countered through Tamar Crnkic, who secured the home side's third goal (55').
Austria subsequently controls the game and remains dangerous especially through counter-attacks. Chances for a bigger win, however, remain unutilized, with Christian Huetz missing the best opportunity in the final phase (81').
With the win, the 'Violets' temporarily move up to fourth place in the table, level on points with the Young Violets, who have played one game less.
For the Lower Austrians, who temporarily drop to sixth place, this also ends their run of five consecutive games without defeat.
