Two Wins and Two Losses for ÖTV Aces in Kitzbühel Qualifiers
While Jurij Rodionov and Sandro Kopp advance in the first qualifying round of the Generali Open, the tournament ends early for Nico Hipfl and Niklas Waldner.
The first round of qualifying in Kitzbühel was a short day at the office for Jurij Rodionov.
Against Russian Andrey Chepelev, the Austrian number two won 6:2, 6:2 in just 45 minutes. He converted all four of his break points on his first attempt, while Chepelev failed to create a single one. In the decisive match for the main draw, he will play against Ukrainian Vitaly Sachko.
The 26-year-old Tyrolean Sandro Kopp also won his opening match. He defeated Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert also in straight sets, 6:4, 6:4. Kopp, who currently holds his personal best ranking at world number 291 in the ATP rankings, will face Swiss Kilian Feldbausch in the next round.
Losses for ÖTV Wildcards
Nico Hipfl, son of former Austrian Top 100 player Markus Hipfl, could not celebrate an opening win. The 20-year-old lost to Italian Lorenzo Giustino 2:6, 4:6.
Niklas Waldner also lost in the first qualifying round. Waldner lost to former world number 27, Laslo Djere, 2:6, 4:6.
