The German sees a connection between the many injuries and the balls used in professional tennis. Now he voices criticism.
Alexander Zverev voices fierce criticism of the balls in professional tennis shortly before the US Open.
"The balls have simply become a bit deader; you have to hit the ball harder to get it to go anywhere," explains the German, also seeing this issue as a reason for some injuries.
This would lead to wrist, elbow, and arm problems. Just a few days ago, Carlos Alcaraz made his comeback after his wrist injury (more on this >>>).
"I still believe it has a lot to do with the court surface and the balls," the tennis star continues regarding the many withdrawals.
Zverev Sees Progress in His Game
For Zverev, the US Open begins on Monday. He is currently happy with the progress he has made in recent weeks.
"In Australia this year, I also played incredibly poorly in practice, the entire week leading up to it. And then I also had a very bad first match. Then I got into the tournament, and it got better and better. I had a good second round, a good third round, and then I was in the tournament. That's why I have to see how it will be here," he concludes.
In the first round, the world number two will face Italian Lorenzo Sonego (ATP-91.).
