Austria's duos' fortunes on Day 2 of the Beach Volleyball European Championship
While two men's teams celebrate victories, one is already defeated. The Klinger sisters lose in the Round of 24.
Day two at the Beach Volleyball European Championship in Stare Jabłonki (POL) is history!
The duels unfolded with mixed success for the Austrian teams.
Successes for Men's Duos
After Waller/Pristauz had already won their first match on Wednesday against Henning/Pfretzschner (GER), they left the court as losers (0:2) in their first duel on Thursday against Plavins/Fokerots in Pool D, but their progression is nevertheless secured.
Against Czachorowski/Krzeminski (POL), they once again secured a 2:0 victory in the Round of 24.
The tournament has been equally successful so far for the duo Hammarberg/Berger. Austria's number one prevailed 2:0 against both Kantor/Lejawa (POL) and Van de Velde/De Groot (NED). They thus advance directly to the Round of 16 as winners of Group H.
Horst/Dressler Eliminated After Preliminary Round
Horst/Dressler (Pool A), however, have already been eliminated after the preliminary round. The team lost 0:2 against the Swedes Hölting-Nilsson/Elmar Andersson. They were seeded as the tournament's number one. This was followed by another defeat against Perusic/Dzavoronok from the Czech Republic.
Horst analyzed after the matches: "It was the expected tough group. We had our chances in both games, unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on them. Against the young Swedes, we were 19:17 ahead; we had set points there! If you're not in sync, like us, you can't expect much at the European Championship."
Defeat for Klinger Sisters
After the Klinger sisters suffered a 0:2 defeat against Ittlinger/Grüne (GER) on day one, a victory against Villám/Kun followed on Thursday in Pool E, securing their progression to the Round of 24.
There, they narrowly lost 1:2 to Placette/Richard (FRA).
