Astronomical Sum! Super Bowl Champion Seattle Sold for Record Amount
In February, they crowned themselves NFL champions; five months later, the franchise is being sold for an astronomical sum to a new owner.
The reigning Super Bowl champion, the Seattle Seahawks, has a new owner!
According to US media reports, an investor group led by India-born entrepreneur Vinod Khosla is paying over 9.6 billion dollars for the franchise, setting a new record.
Deal Not Yet Finalized
This significantly surpasses the previous record: In 2023, the Washington Commanders changed hands for 6.05 billion dollars.
However, the deal is not yet completely finalized. The NFL still needs to give its approval for the sale. This is because Khosla also owns shares in NFL rival San Francisco 49ers. He must first divest these before the deal can be finalized.
Proceeds to be Donated
Previously, the Seahawks were long held by the Allen family, led by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who passed away in 2018. His estate, which included the Seahawks, was subsequently managed by his sister.
The proceeds from the sale of the franchise are to be donated to charity, as reported by US media.
