NFL Mourns Legendary Coach
At 86, the life of a man who achieved success in every role of American football comes to an end.
The NFL is mourning Mike Ditka. The former tight end and later coach has died at 86.
Ditka (pictured right) enjoyed legendary status, especially among fans of the Chicago Bears, whom he coached to their sole Super Bowl victory in the 1980s.
The former tight end is considered one of the best players of all time at his position. During his active career from 1961 to 1972, he was selected to the Pro Bowl five times, and in 1971, he also won a Super Bowl title as a player with the Dallas Cowboys.
He later served as an Assistant Coach for the Cowboys, winning another Super Bowl in that role in 1977. From 1982 to 1992, he was the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears, and later, from 1997-1999, he had an unsuccessful stint as Head Coach for the New Orleans Saints.
Alongside Tom Flores, Ditka was, until now, the only man to win Super Bowl titles as a player, head coach, and assistant coach. Due to his successes, he is also a member of the Hall of Fame.
