Yamal on low scoring record: "As long as I win the World Cup..."
Unlike Messi, Mbappé and Co., the Spaniard only has one World Cup goal, but isn't worried about it at all.
Spain is back in a World Cup semi-final for the first time since their 2010 title, as the Iberians defeated Belgium 2-1 on Friday.
The match-winner, as in the round of 16 against Portugal, was Mikel Merino, who was again substituted late and scored the winning goal just a few minutes later. Lamine Yamal also looked determined that evening, was involved in many offensive actions, and also initiated the goal.
Nevertheless, not everything went perfectly; the young Spaniard, who celebrates his 19th birthday on Monday, also had one or two untidy touches.
For Yamal, only team success matters
Moreover, after six games, he only has one scorer point, scoring the opening goal in the 4-0 win against Saudi Arabia. However, he was only returning from an injury at the start of the World Cup and therefore only played the full 90 minutes twice.
However, the Spaniard's superstar is not bothered by his low output compared to other top stars like Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, or Ousmane Dembelé, as he revealed in an interview after the match against Belgium:
"The truth is, it doesn't bother me. I won the European Championship and only scored one goal. As long as I win the World Cup, no one will say he didn't score. As long as we progress, I'm happy, and what's important is the team and that we're in the next round."
No team on par
Sometimes it looks as if we don't play beautiful football, but in reality, no team plays on equal terms; instead, everyone just sits back, which makes it difficult.
That could change on Tuesday when Spain meets France in what might already be an anticipated final. We will see if Yamal scores then or if they can manage without him.
