Spain are the first finalists of the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA!

The Iberians deservedly win the semi-final against France 2-0 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Texas). A penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal and a goal from Pedro Porro lead "La Furia Roja" to their second World Cup final in history.

In the final, the 2010 world champions will face the winner of the match between England and Argentina. That semi-final takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, at 9:00 PM.

Spain Takes the Lead from the Penalty Spot

For the French, Aurelien Tchouameni and Bradley Barcola move into the starting XI for Kouadio Kone and Desire Doue. Spain's coach Luis de la Fuente makes no personnel changes compared to the 2-1 quarter-final victory over Belgium.

Spain controlled the game for large parts of the first half. The first promising opportunity also belonged to the 2010 world champions. Adrien Rabiot stepped on Dani Olmo's foot just outside the penalty area. A free-kick was awarded to the Iberians, but Alex Baena's effort hit the wall (10').

After about fifteen minutes, "Les Bleus" showed their attacking prowess for the first time. Ousmane Dembele found Kylian Mbappe with a fine, long through ball. However, the Real star could not get past three Spanish defenders (16').

Suddenly, on the other end, there was a penalty for Spain! Lucas Digne tried to clear the ball while turning in the box. However, the left-back overlooked the onrushing Lamine Yamal and caught the Barcelona youngster's thigh with his left foot. Oyarzabal of Real Sociedad stepped up and confidently converted into the right corner for a 1-0 lead (22').

France Gains Momentum Before the Break

Shortly after the water break, there was another setback for the French. Arsenal defender William Saliba had to leave the field injured. Coach Didier Deschamps brought Maxence Lacroix into the game (30').

After rather harmless shots on both sides, the Spaniards had the next good opportunity. Following a scuffed Maignan clearance, "La Furia Roja" combined beautifully into the French penalty area. Yamal, after an Olmo backheel, tried to set up Fabian Ruiz in the middle. Dayot Upamecano just managed to intercept (38').

In the minutes before the break, the French became more active. Spain's goalkeeper Unai Simon came well out of his goal against Mbappe, who was making a run in behind, and slid to clear the ball (42'). However, France's star striker was possibly offside in that instance. In stoppage time, Mbappe clearly missed a cross from Jules Kounde (45.+2').

Clinical Spain

At halftime, Deschamps reacted, taking off the yellow-carded Rabiot, with Kone coming on.

The Spaniards started the second half better. Yamal was denied by Mike Maignan from a tight angle, but was offside (51'). Shortly after, Oyarzabal shot over from distance (52').

After about an hour, Deschamps sought a new attacking impetus, bringing on PSG player Desire Doue for Barcola (57'). Moments later, the Spaniards extended their lead to 2-0. Porro and Olmo dismantled the French defense with a one-two. Right-back Porro had plenty of space, took his chance confidently, and coolly slotted into the near corner (58').

Just three minutes later, a supposed 3-0 goal was scored. Yamal outran Digne, leaving the left-back behind in the penalty area. However, his curled shot into the far corner did not count as the 19-year-old was offside in the build-up (61').

No French Fightback

France now had to push harder and increased their tempo. First, Mbappe tested Simon from a very tight angle (64'). Then, a shot from the 27-year-old whistled just wide of the left post (67').

In the final phase, the French lacked conviction. When goalkeeper Simon again came far out of his goal and headed the ball directly to Doue, the PSG youngster took too long with his shot and failed to create any danger (81'). An Mbappe free-kick shortly before the end of regular time was also too harmless (88').

In the seven minutes of stoppage time, Spain comfortably saw out the result.
