A Class Apart! St.Pölten Loses CL First Leg Against Juve
The upset did not materialise. In the return leg, they would need a similar comeback like LASK.
The SKN women were defeated by Juventus Turin 0:3 in the first leg of the Champions League playoff.
Juventus' women took the lead with their very first chance in the seventh minute. A shot was initially blocked, but Pinto was perfectly positioned and converted the rebound (7').
Subsequently, the difference in quality became clear.
The Italians took control and extended their lead with a spectacular goal from Rosucci: Her shot flew into the top corner, with St. Pölten's goalkeeper Schlüter looking less than convincing (38').
Comeback Fails to Materialise
After the break, Juventus remained dominant. In the 73rd minute, Redondo squandered their best opportunity, heading the ball wide of the goal.
Just two minutes later, St. Pölten had their best chance. Magdalena Matavková shot from the edge of the box, but Juventus goalkeeper De Jong prevented a consolation goal with a strong save (75').
In the 80th minute, the Italians finally sealed the deal. Serturini ran clean through on goal and initially failed against Schlüter. However, Pinto converted the rebound for her second goal.
Thus, the St. Pölten women must overcome a three-goal deficit in the return leg to still reach the league phase of the Champions League. This will take place on September 2nd in Biella.
