"You must not lose": Klopp laments DFB defeat

Jürgen Klopp and the German national team suffered their first defeat as national coach.

Against Greece, the DFB team, changed in several positions, lost 0-1 in Augsburg (to the match report>>>). The recently emerged sense of optimism thus suffered a significant setback.

While the result is secondary for Klopp, the DFB coach was nevertheless annoyed by the defeat. “I could have lived with not winning the game, but you must not lose it,” Klopp said after the match.

Klopp anticipated that it would be difficult against a deeply defending opponent after only one week together. However, especially after the break, the intended patterns of play no longer clicked. “Why, we have to find out,” said the DFB coach.

"I'm free from results pressure"

He is not worried yet. Klopp had already made it clear beforehand that he viewed this international break, with his large squad, as a test phase.

The 58-year-old reiterated that for him, results alone are not the priority: “I am free from results pressure. As long as you draw the right conclusions from it, it's ultimately also information, just like a win.”

Already on Thursday, Germany has the next chance to secure their first win of the Klopp era. In Munich's Allianz Arena, the DFB team will then host Serbia (from 8:45 PM in the LIVE ticker>>>).

From this game, the second squad will be used; among others, Joshua Kimmich and Florian Wirtz return to their clubs.
