Lewandowski Brace! Poland Dismantles Romania
In the clash of the Eastern Europeans, there is a clear winner. Meanwhile, a former Salzburg player saves a point for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Sweden.
Poland secures their first win in the current Nations League!
They clearly defeat Romania 4-0, with captain Lewandowski scoring a brace.
The visitors weakened themselves after 22 minutes. Dragusin brought down Lewandowski as the last man and was shown a red card. "Lewa" converted the resulting penalty to give his side the lead.
Shortly after the break, he completed his brace, putting a cross from Zalewski over the line from close range (47').
Unfortunate Ghita
Just two minutes later, the match was virtually decided: Ghita deflected a cross into his own net – 3-0 for the hosts (49'). Zielinski scored for 4-0 in the 62nd minute, Bednarek increased it to 5-0 with a header (66'), and Lewandowski added the final touch for 6-0 (86').
This puts Poland in third place in Group 4, as Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to pick up points against Sweden in the parallel match.
Alajbegovic Rescues Bosnia
Sweden took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Arsenal striker Gyökeres (61'), but former Salzburg player Alajbegovic equalized in the closing stages (80').
Sweden continues to lead the group with seven points, ahead of Bosnia (5).
Ukraine Suffers Clear Home Defeat
In Group 2, Ukraine surprisingly suffered a clear 0-3 defeat 'at home' in Trnava against Northern Ireland. Brown (9') and Price (22') quickly secured a 2-0 lead for the Northern Irish. Brown completed his brace in the second half and sealed the victory (61').
In the parallel match, Hungary won 1-0 against Georgia thanks to a decisive goal from Kerkez.
Northern Ireland is thus the group leader (7 points), ahead of Ukraine (4) and Hungary (4). Georgia only has one point.
