Arnautovic held by police during 2010 CL triumph
In 2010, Marko Arnautovic won the Champions League with Inter Milan. In a Twitch livestream, Austria's record player now offered insights into the celebrations that followed.
Marko Arnautovic won the Champions League with Inter Milan under Jose Mourinho in 2010.
In a Twitch livestream with German streamer "marli", the 37-year-old now openly recounts the celebrations following the victory in the final against Bayern Munich and David Alaba.
Inter won the match 2-0 with a brace from Diego Milito. Arnautovic was 21 years old at the time – but did not feature in the CL season.
Inter Fans wanted to see Arnautovic: "Come Marko, Come!"
After the final whistle, it was off to the Italian fans. "'Come Marko, Come!'", the supporters shouted, Arnautovic recounts. "And me, you know, being crazy, I thought I'd jump right into the crowd," Austria's record goal-scorer recalls.
Afterward, he wanted to get back onto the pitch, but the striker no longer had accreditation. The police pushed him to the ground and held his hands behind his back.
Giuseppe Baresi, Jose Mourinho's assistant coach at the time, had to explain to the police that Arnautovic belonged to the team so that law enforcement would release the Austrian.
Played a prank on Balotelli
The assistant coach told Arnautovic to simply get on the bus after the game and not cause any more trouble. But when "Arni" went to the bus, he saw Mario Balotelli sitting by the window, talking on the phone.
"So I slowly crept up, jumped high, and slammed against the window. And he got scared, and suddenly six police officers came. 'Oh stop! Stop!'. They thought I was a fan again," Arnautovic recounted.
The police again pushed him to the ground, and Baresi had to free him once more from the brief detention. His assistant coach then explicitly told him again to get on the bus now and stay seated.
"And then, with my messed-up head, I see the Bayern Munich bus"
Arnautovic didn't stay on the bus for long and wanted to visit his friend David Alaba on the Bayern bus. "And then I go in there and go to Louis van Gaal and say: 'Good Game!'. Nobody knew me, nobody even knew I was playing for Inter," Arnautovic said.
He then wished the entire team all the best and laughed: "You know, me as a clueless no-name."
Van Gaal must have remembered that – in the three clashes between the Dutchman with Bayern Munich and Arnautovic with Werder Bremen, the coaching icon didn't lose any of them.
