"Vini is bullied" - Mourinho backs star player
The Portuguese simultaneously demands more control over his emotions from the Brazilian.
José Mourinho has come out in defence of Vinicius Junior after Real Madrid's successful league opener against Espanyol Barcelona (to the match report >>>).
The Portuguese criticises the treatment of his attacking player and speaks of a recurring pattern.
"He's no saint, but what they're doing to him is unbearable," Mourinho explains. The Real coach is convinced that Vinicius is repeatedly targeted not only by opposing players but also by fans.
Mourinho Gives Vinicius Advice
"We live in a time when bullying is fought against socially, but Vini is still bullied – by opponents and by spectators," says Mourinho.
The constant provocations are frustrating for the Brazilian. At the same time, however, Mourinho also holds his own player accountable. Vinicius must learn to control his emotions better.
The Portuguese has spoken with the 25-year-old about it and, among other things, advised him to pay closer attention in the future to "how he celebrates when he scores a goal."
Vinicius regularly causes discussions among opposing fans with his emotional and sometimes provocative manner.
