Real Stars Around Mbappe Cause Uproar Over Ceuta Shirt
Three Real Madrid players obscured the message on their shirts when entering the pitch.
On Tuesday, Real Madrid narrowly pulled themselves out of a tight spot against FC Elche in the dying minutes.
In the 3-2 victory, Carlos Espi scored the decisive goal for the Madrid side only in stoppage time (Match Report>>>).
However, the match caused a stir not only on the sporting front. Even when entering the pitch, T-shirts worn by both teams attracted attention. The shirts bore the slogan "We are all Caballas".
Mbappe, Vini and Konate Refused
With this, the teams intended to express their support for the Spanish exclave of Ceuta. Ceuta had been repeatedly in the media in recent weeks after thousands of people stormed the exclave on the Moroccan mainland at the end of July.
However, not everyone wore the T-shirt and showed their support. While Ibrahima Konate merely held it in his hand, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior only pulled the shirt just over their shoulders.
Consequently, there was an uproar surrounding the three stars in the Spanish media. Some also demanded that the players show their support. The club, however, granted the players freedom of expression.
