Lindner rants about VAR - Marcel Koller didn't know the rule
An Austrian played the ball with his arm, but the penalty was eventually rescinded due to a rule.
With three points from four games, FC Zürich, led by former ÖFB national team coach Marcel Koller, has not exactly had a thrilling start to the season. They recently suffered a 1-2 defeat against FC Basel and ÖFB legionnaire Flavius Daniliuc.
The Zurich team was very close to securing a point. In the 96th minute, Daniliuc clearly played the ball with his hand in the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the spot, but then rescinded the penalty after VAR intervention.
Zurich goalkeeper and ÖFB player Heinz Lindner is outraged after the game. "Firstly, he should only send him off if it's a clear wrong decision. And then the entire stadium sees on the big screen that the ball touched the hand. Despite that, he takes it back. That is inexplicable," the Austrian is quoted by "Blick".
Rule prevents penalty
Countryman Daniliuc says: "The arm was relatively low. That's why it's not a penalty for me." However, the penalty was not awarded for a completely different reason.
"I asked the referee. He said it's not a handball when your own player passes the ball to a teammate. I didn't know that. I find it strange. But apparently, that's a new rule again," explains Marcel Koller.
