Several Players Injured! Ilzer Condemns Nations League
The TSG Hoffenheim head coach is highly critical of the lengthy international break.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim last played a competitive match against SC Paderborn (1:3) on September 20th – three weeks have passed since then. Far too long, according to TSG head coach Christian Ilzer.
The Austrian is "very critical" of the UEFA Nations League, as he explained on Friday during the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against Hamburger SV (Saturday, from 3:30 PM in the LIVE ticker).
"As club coaches, we have clear development mandates. One goal, of course, is to develop them into international players. But I don't see much benefit in scheduling a long break with four matches at the start of a season," he criticized.
Four matches are simply too many, according to Ilzer. The Nations League could therefore be "done without".
Several TSG Players Returned Injured
Particularly bitter: several TSG players have returned to Kraichgau injured.
"We also got several players back injured," Ilzer lamented. He did not want to reveal who exactly, because "HSV and coach Merlin Polzin do a brilliant job in opponent analysis. We don't want to make it easy for them."
The ÖFB national team also had two TSG Hoffenheim players, Patrick Wimmer and Alexander Prass, in their squad.
