Sturm Graz suffered a 0-3 defeat against AFC Bournemouth on the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League (Match Report >>>).

The Graz side, especially at the beginning of the second half, showed a very spirited performance. However, after two individual errors, they ultimately couldn't take anything away and suffered their first defeat in the current Europa League season.

LAOLA1 analyzes the performance of all Sturm players and assigns ratings (1=Very Good, 2=Good, 3=Satisfactory, 4=Passable, 5=Insufficient, "-" = too little playing time).

test

Daniil Khudyakov

90 Minutes

For the 0-1, the Graz goalkeeper didn't look entirely composed on an awkward header from Evanilson, but he cannot be largely blamed.

The second goal, however, clearly falls to the Russian. He couldn't hold onto Cook's corner, allowing Rayan to tap in the rebound, which also slipped through his grasp.

He was almost there for the 0-3 penalty, having previously made some strong saves.

test

Arjan Malic

90 Minutes

Initially deployed as a right-back, the Bosnian moved into the right centre-back position in defence.

He struggled with minor uncertainties at first, but for large parts of the game, he appeared quite composed.

test

Joshua Quarshie

90 Minutes

In the initial phase, the German was very present in duels, and especially a weapon in the air.

However, he repeatedly made positional errors. For the 0-1, he was too far away from Evanilson, allowing the latter to head in undisturbed.

In the second half, the German appeared even more composed and was able to clear up repeatedly. The central defender was not involved in the other two goals.

test

Petar Petrovic

Until the 75th Minute

The Serb had a lot to do, especially in the early stages, and mostly performed his job reliably.

However, he also showed uncertainties in build-up play, requiring his teammates to cover.

He was finally substituted for Vallci in the 75th minute.

test

Luis Balbo

until the 81st minute

The Venezuelan had significant problems on his left defensive flank. However, he also had a lot to contend with, facing Gannon-Doak and later Rayan.

Nevertheless, he repeatedly allowed the wingers to get past him, leading to dangerous situations. For the 0-1, he crucially slipped in the build-up to the cross, creating a lot of space.

While he tried to correct positional errors repeatedly with a battling performance, it was ultimately a poor day for Balbo.

test

Jürgen Heil

90 Minutes

The livewire was Graz's best player.

Although he had a lot to contend with Tavernier on his right flank for a long time, he repeatedly battled into duels and tried to initiate attacks through them.

His passing was at times a bit too inaccurate, but after an error, he immediately engaged in counter-pressing. In the 62nd minute, he had Graz's best chance after a fine Seidl assist. However, his shot only rattled the post.

test

Jon Gorenc-Stankovic

90 Minutes

The veteran was also Graz's linchpin against Bournemouth. However, he was at times too inaccurate, especially in his passing.

In the second half, he had two shots from distance, both going well over the goal.

In stoppage time, he then caused the penalty through a handball, which led to the 0-3 final score.

test

Valmir Matoshi

until the 81st minute

The Kosovar wasn't quite as prominent as Gorenc Stankovic. However, he did show flashes of brilliance. He performed his duties quite decently both defensively and offensively.

Matoshi was noticeable when he started a strong dribble in the first half and tried to find Hödl with a pass. However, it didn't quite get through.

test

Simon Seidl

until the 75th minute

Seidl was relatively quiet in the first half. However, in Graz's attacking phase in the second half, the attacker was the most prominent player.

He repeatedly initiated dangerous attacks. For example, he played a fine pass before Heil's big chance. He also found Gorenc Stankovic.

His set-pieces, however, posed very little threat.

test

Jacob Peter Hödl

Until the 75th Minute

It wasn't Hödl's game.

In the early stages, the youngster was virtually absent, also because generally little went through his left flank. He then became a bit more noticeable, but made many mistakes with the ball.

During Matoshi's excellent action in the 31st minute, he made a strong run into the box but couldn't quite reach the ball. In the second half, the 19-year-old appeared a bit more present, yet he repeatedly made the wrong decisions.

For Graz's biggest chance in the 64th minute, he shot too centrally.

test

Belmin Beganovic

until the 61st minute, Yellow Card

The former U21 international had a very difficult match. Overall, he only managed 14 touches of the ball.

Although he ran a lot, he wasn't really involved in the game throughout the entire match. During a Hödl chance in the first half, he tried to win a penalty. He rightly received a yellow card for it.

He was substituted for Diakite in the 61st minute.

test

Oumar Diakite

from the 61st minute

Like Beganovic, not much was seen from Diakite either.

After the 0-2, generally little came from Graz, which did not benefit the striker.

test

Albert Vallci

from the 75th minute, Yellow Card

Immediately after the triple substitution, Graz conceded the second goal, which visibly broke the team. The substitutes couldn't change anything about that.

He rightly received a yellow card for a tactical foul.

test

Julian Halwachs

from the 75th minute, Yellow Card

Halwachs also had little influence on the match. Although he repeatedly showed himself in attack, he didn't truly make an impression. He received a yellow card for a hold.

test

Axel Kayombo

from the 75th minute

Kayombo also couldn't make his mark on the game anymore.

test

Paul Koller

from the 83rd minute

Too short to be rated.
