Successful Europa League Start for Kevin Danso
The Austrian defender wins at home with Sunderland against AZ Alkmaar. The "Black Cats" are participating in European competition for only the second time in the club's history.
Kevin Danso and AFC Sunderland successfully kick off their new Europa League season.
On the first matchday of the league phase, the English side secured a 1-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar.
In a first half where Sunderland were by far the more dangerous team, Danso himself had one of the best chances. Following a corner, he headed wide from close range (40').
The lead came after the break from the penalty spot. Enzo Le Fee converted into the bottom right corner. It is the club's first European goal in over 52 years. The "Black Cats" had previously qualified for an international club competition for the first and only time in the 1973/74 season.
