Prass and Hoffenheim beat Bacher's Olympique
In the duel of Austrian legionnaires, coach Christian Ilzer's team clearly has the upper hand.
On the third matchday of the Europa League group stage, TSG Hoffenheim defeats French top club Olympique Lyon 3-0.
For the guests, Felix Bacher is in the starting lineup in central defence. For TSG, Prass starts in midfield. Patrick Wimmer is still out injured.
In the first half, the "Kraichgauer" (Hoffenheim) have more chances. However, they can only reward themselves late. Due to a long injury break caused by Lyon's Kango, there is a good amount of added time. Kramaric optimally uses this, heading the ball from the left edge of the six-yard box into the far corner (45 +4.).
Hoffenheim celebrates first EL win
At halftime, Felix Bacher is substituted for the French team, even though, looking at the statistics, he recorded his team's best defensive stats, including a 100% tackle success rate.
Shortly after the restart, Christian Ilzer's team extends their lead. Former Salzburg player Daghim slots in for 2-0 in the 49th minute, after Kamara unluckily deflects the ball. In the 51st minute, Kramaric almost increases the lead again, but misses the big chance.
Although Hoffenheim shifts down a gear and manages their lead, it does not seem as if Lyon will be able to stage a comeback. In the 83rd minute, however, Hlozek seals everything with a placed shot for 3-0.
The Sinsheimers thus clinch their first win of this Europa League season and announce their return in the fight for the play-off spots. Lyon suffers their first defeat after two wins and sits in twelfth place with six points.
