Sahin-Radlinger on two penalties: "They were soft"
Austria delivered a brave performance at Braga, but were ultimately disappointed, especially due to a late conceded goal.
Wiener Austria delivered a solid performance in the UEFA Conference League playoff first leg at SC Braga, yet the "Veilchen" ultimately had to concede a 0:2 defeat away from home (To the match report>>>).
Austria kept pace well, but fell behind in the 25th minute from a penalty. They remained in the game even after that, but another penalty was awarded against them in the final phase, which Samuel Sahin-Radlinger could save, but the 0:2 goal was still scored shortly after.
"Should have tightened up defensively better"
The keeper himself says: "Both penalty decisions were very soft. I haven't seen them on TV yet, but I don't think they necessarily had to be given."
The late second goal especially hurts Sahin-Radlinger: "After the 0-1, we should have tightened up defensively better at the back, because then we would have had a better starting position for the second leg. With the 0-2, it's now very, very bitter."
"Dangerous result" gives Helm hope
Although Austria had entered the match as absolute underdogs, they showed a very strong performance, especially at the beginning of the second half, also creating a few chances of their own.
"In the second half, we wanted to become a bit more dangerous by focusing on one or two details, without opening up too many spaces. We succeeded better in that," says coach Stephan Helm.
Although the starting position before the second leg is not ideal, Helm does not give up hope: "We would have very much preferred the 0-1, but in football, a 0-2 is considered a dangerous result. We will naturally set ourselves high goals, perform courageously and try to deliver a passionate performance with the atmosphere in our stadium."
