Wiener Austria suffers a 2-0 away defeat in Braga in the Conference League play-off first leg.

The "Violets" were active in the opening minutes. However, the Portuguese quickly showed their favourite status and took control.

Nevertheless, after five minutes, Eggestein created the first notable action with a long-range shot that went two metres wide of the goal. However, Austria didn't create any other good attacks in the first half after that.

Braga capitalises on an unnecessary penalty to take the lead

Braga, meanwhile, became more active and took the lead from the penalty spot. After losing possession, Buhari opted for the worst possible solution and brought Huseinbasic down in the box.

Former Barca player Pau Victor converted the penalty centrally to give the Portuguese a 1-0 lead (25'). Before half-time, Fran Navarro just missed the right post from five metres for Braga (32').

After the break, however, Austria had two promising opportunities. First, a Hettwer shot was cleared for a corner. This corner then became extremely dangerous (48').

Fischer hits the crossbar, Sahin-Radlinger saves penalty

FAK captain Manfred Fischer got to the ball and hit the crossbar (49'). Immediately afterwards, Maybach headed the ball over the bar.

Subsequently, Helm's side remained active and clearly had more possession than before the break. Braga, on the other hand, tried to manage their narrow lead as much as possible.

Suddenly, Braga was awarded a second penalty in the final phase. Fischer seemed to play the ball in the box, but he also lightly hit Gomez in the face with his hand. Pau Victor again stepped up to take responsibility, but Sahin-Radlinger made a strong save from the penalty (84').

Braga extends their lead late on

Nevertheless, the Portuguese still scored their second goal. Diego Rodrigues slotted the ball into the bottom left corner with a shot, making it 2-0 (88').

The Viennese had a golden opportunity. However, after a corner, Saljic curled the ball just past the left post (90+6').

For Wiener Austria, there will now be a free weekend due to the postponement of their league match against WSG Tirol. The return leg in Vienna will therefore take place next Thursday.
