Silberberger: Why Verhounig isn't in the squad against Salzburg
The WAC head coach was not at all pleased with the reporting about a possible gentleman's agreement.
WAC newcomer Phillip Verhounig is not in the squad for the match against his former club FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Ahead of the clash (from 17:00 in the LIVE ticker >>>), "Sky" reported on a gentleman's agreement between the two clubs. This agreement would state that the player should not be used in direct encounters.
Why Verhounig is missing from the squad
"There is no written agreement. Whether something was agreed upon verbally, I don't know," explains "Wolves" coach Thomas Silberberger before the match, speaking to "Sky".
His coach explains why Verhounig is not in the squad against Salzburg as follows: "Because his preparation needs to be 100 percent for us to get something today. And if you're distracted by such senseless media articles, then that's not good for a young player. That's why I'm taking him out of the firing line today."
This "massively" bothers Silberberger
Silberberger views the reporting on this topic in recent days very critically. "What bothers me massively is that someone leaked that to your medium," he tells the Sky presenter.
"And if that pops up three days beforehand, then Philipp is the loser. Because, of course, he constantly has to justify himself," says Silberberger.
