No Deal! Rapid comes up empty on Deadline Day
The Hütteldorfer were unable to sign a replacement for Romeo Amane before the transfer deadline.
SK Rapid did not sign any more players on Deadline Day.
On the day after the 1-5 defeat against Red Bull Salzburg, hopes were high in western Vienna to still bring in a defensive midfielder - however, this was not successful, as sporting director Markus Katzer confirmed to "Kurier".
The Hütteldorfer let go of three holding midfielders in Romeo Amane, Lukas Grgic, and Tobias Börkeeit. While the latter two are rather bearable, only the transfer fee of 6.5 million Euros for the 23-year-old Ivorian provides any consolation.
Ndzie injured for an extended period
Thus, for now, the defensive midfield will consist of captain Matthias Seidl and Nicolas Bajlicz.
Coach Johannes Hoff Thorup will probably not be entirely happy about this, as the coach stated after the thrashing in Salzburg: "Today we saw where we need reinforcements if we want to compete for the top spots in this league."
Also in the squad are 19-year-old Lorenz Szladits and Martin Ndzie. The Cameroonian could still be considered a new signing this year, as he has only made 14 appearances since his signing a year ago for 2.5 million Euros.
The 23-year-old has been out since the Vienna Derby in February with a knee injury, but will probably only be an option for appearances again in a few weeks.
