A Deja Vu Haunting WAC: "It Hurts Incredibly"
Just four days after the away match at GAK, the next early dismissal follows. The nature of the red card is painful. Will there now be consequences?
WAC is making its own life difficult!
For the second time in a row, the Carinthians had to play almost the entire match with a man down after an early professional foul. This time, however, it wasn't enough to gain a point. LASK prevailed 3-1.
Because against the double winner from Linz, even a fighting performance wasn't enough. The disadvantage of playing a man down for so long was too great.
Behounek after Red Card: "Must Not Happen"
Four days ago at GAK, it was WAC defender Nicolas Wimmer who left his team with ten men after just 15 minutes. This time, it took only two minutes for the Wolfsberger to lose an outfield player.
A professional foul by Raffael Behounek against LASK player Christoph Lang resulted in a red card. Naturally, the defender was frustrated afterwards.
"It hurts incredibly. Today's defeat is absolutely on me," explained the central defender. Despite a ligament tear in his ankle, he decided to start the match after a joint discussion with WAC coach Thomas Silberberger.
"I can only apologize for my blackout. Something like that must not happen to me," added the Vienna-born player.
WAC Coach Silberberger Criticizes: "You Must Never Commit Such a Professional Foul"
Clearly, Silberberger was quite frustrated by the early red card. The Tyrolean particularly criticized his key players.
"When you play 93 minutes with a man down and four days before that 85 minutes with a man down, it's just extremely difficult," said the 53-year-old. "It's naturally frustrating when you can throw the match plan in the trash after two minutes," he added.
Besides Wimmer, now Behounek, another key player from Wolfsberg, committed such a last-man foul. Silberberger is naturally quite upset about this.
"We expect them to draw the right conclusions in these situations. That's why they are also key players," he stated and added that "one must never commit such a professional foul."
Whether WAC's defense learns from these mistakes, the Wolfsberger will have to prove already this weekend against SC/ESV Parndorf in the second round of the ÖFB Cup (on Sunday from 5:00 PM in the LIVE-Ticker <<<)..
