This ÖFB Debutant Will Be in Goal Against Kosovo

The decision has been made: Christian Zawieschitzky will be in goal for Austria on Sunday evening against Kosovo (from 6:00 PM in the LIVE ticker).

The 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg goalkeeper will thus make his debut for the ÖFB team. Head coach Ralf Rangnick had already announced at Saturday's final press conference that a goalkeeper would make his first appearance for Austria against Kosovo. Only Zawieschitzky and Lukas Jungwirth were considered as candidates.

The LASK goalie, however, will have to wait a little longer for his first ÖFB cap. Jungwirth is not in the 23-man squad for the clash with Kosovo, managed by Franco Foda.

Zawieschitzky to Join U21 Afterwards

After the match, Zawieschitzky will head straight to the U21 national team. The Salzburg goalkeeper is expected to help out in the important matches against Denmark and Wales.

In addition to Zawieschitzky, Felix Bacher and the 18-year-old Vasilije Markovic are two other players making their first appearance in the matchday squad.

Gregoritsch, Mwene and Lienhart Absent

Not only Jungwirth is missing from the squad. Michael Gregoritsch also failed to get fit in time. The striker was injured in Thursday's 3-1 victory against Israel and recently missed the final training session.

Phillipp Mwene and Philipp Lienhart are also surprisingly absent. Both played the full match against Israel. Mwene even scored the decisive goal to make it 2-1 in the 90th minute.

For the Kosovo match, Rangnick had to cut three outfield players and one goalkeeper from his original 27-man squad. A maximum of 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers can be nominated per game.
