Hertha battles for a point against superior Amstetten
SKU Amstetten deservedly takes the lead after an hour but then fails to decide the game – Hertha scores a late equalizer.
Hertha Wels remains without a win in their fourth ADMIRAL 2. Liga match, but battles for a late 1-1 draw at SKU Amstetten and even squanders a huge chance for victory in stoppage time.
The visitors almost get off to a flying start: After just 20 seconds, the Upper Austrians get dangerously close to goal through Talgahan Sahin, whose shot Estevao is able to save without difficulty.
After that, Amstetten takes control: After Joshua Steiger (2nd minute) and Felix Köchl (7th minute) create good chances, it becomes genuinely dangerous for the first time after almost a quarter of an hour, but Kilian Schröcker can parry a Peham shot while sliding (13th minute).
The hosts remain on the offensive afterwards, Yannick Vötter failing a few minutes later after a through ball from Sebastian Wimmer against the brilliantly playing Hertha goalkeeper (20th minute).
SKU Goal Disallowed
While Hertha only creates danger with a low cross from Sahin (25th minute), the ball also finds the net once at the end of the first half.
Vötter runs alone towards Schröcker and lays off to Steiger, who seemingly scores to take the lead – however, referee Safak Barmaksiz had spotted a narrow offside during the preceding through ball (40th minute).
Shortly before the halftime whistle, Vöttner places a shot just wide of the right post inside the box (44th minute).
Wimmer Relieves Amstetten with a Header
After the restart, Amstetten remains on the offensive, while Wels shows improvement, at least initially. Nikolas Freund causes the first stir in the second half, going past Offenthaler in the box and falling – but instead of pointing to the spot, referee Barmaksiz shows him a yellow card for diving (52nd minute).
The first chance for the Mostviertel team in the second half once again falls to the powerful Vöttner, who lobs the ball over the goal after a pass from Peham (56th minute).
Shortly afterwards, the hosts deservedly take the lead: Wimmer converts a free-kick cross from Köchl from the right side with a header; Schröcker still gets a touch but can no longer prevent the goal (59th minute).
Hosts Remain on the Offensive
Just three minutes later, the surging Köchl almost scores a second after a Vötter layoff, but his shot only hits the outside of the post (62nd minute).
While heavy rain then sets in, little changes in the game's flow for the time being; Schröcker prevents a heavier defeat for Wels with strong saves against Wimmer (70th minute) and the breaking-through Peham (72nd minute).
The visitors suddenly get a top chance in the final phase: Sebastian Malinowski lays off to Christopher Wernitznig while falling, but Estevao is on his guard for what was, until then, the only notable chance for the Upper Austrians (78th minute).
Wels Squanders Huge Chance for Victory After Equalizer
Wels throws everything forward in the final minutes; Thomas Mayer misses two good chances for the hosts (83rd, 84th minute), as does Nico Zellhofer seconds later (85th minute).
However, the goal then falls at the other end: Malinowski is in the right place for a cross from the left in the box and catches the Lower Austrians off guard (87th minute).
Instead of celebrating their second win of the season, the home side almost concedes a second goal in stoppage time, but Isa Drammeh squanders the chance for the lucky punch (90+2nd minute).
Thus, after a strong performance, SKU must settle for their third draw of the season, while Wels, on the other hand, celebrates their second point of the season after the victory over Liefering in round two.
