Despite Viennese Late Surge! Liefering Defeat Young Violets
The Salzburg side prevailed against the Viennese in Grödig under difficult weather conditions. The match became exciting again towards the end.
In heavy rain in Grödig, FC Liefering secured a 2-1 victory over Young Violets on the fourth matchday of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.
After their 3-1 victory against Austria Salzburg, the Viennese traveled to the Mozart City with confidence, but already conceded Liefering's first major chance in the twelfth minute.
Leles, who had already been denied by Blazevic shortly before (9'), again failed to convert, as did Masching. A last-minute save allowed the Young Violets to prevent an early deficit.
The Salzburg side started stronger and repeatedly attacked down the right flank, while the visitors had yet to create any significant chances. The weather conditions, with strong wind and rain, made the game difficult for both teams.
Spectacular Goal Puts Liefering Ahead
Matjasec missed the target after a free-kick (29'), as did Österreicher (40') at the other end. Riquelme did better almost on the stroke of half-time (45'). The Brazilian fired from outside the box, putting his team spectacularly ahead.
Just moments after the teams returned to the pitch, Toifl unluckily put the ball into his own net from a Matjasec free-kick (49'), before Matjasec had the chance to make it 3-0 three minutes later, but squandered it.
The Viennese struggled and allowed the home team several chances. Hussauf also forced the "Violets" into a crucial save after a series of corners (57').
Austria Get Better into the Game
Only from the 65th minute did the visitors seem to find their rhythm. Toifl was denied by Winklhofer with a header, as was substitute Ewemade (68').
The next chance came again at the other end. Leles broke past two Austria players and then missed the goal by mere centimeters (69').
The match then became exciting again shortly before the end. Hausjell scored from the left flank to pull one back for the Viennese, making it 1-2 (86'). However, there was no equalizer on Friday evening, despite another chance for the goalscorer (90'+3). Thus, the hosts secured a 2-1 victory.
In the league table, the "Young Bulls" climbed to fourth place. Young Violets are provisionally seventh.
