Hertha Wels celebrates narrow away win against Liefering

Hertha Wels celebrates their first win of the young season in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. The Upper Austrians secured a 3-2 away victory against FC Liefering on matchday 2.

Wels had the better start to the game. The Upper Austrians repeatedly pushed forward and created chances. It was thus logical that they took the lead in the 14th minute.

Liefering equalizes before the break

Oliver Kreger came down the left side and tried to play the ball to Sahin in the middle. However, the midfielder didn't reach the ball; nevertheless, it bounced over Sarcevic and into the net.

As a result, Wels remained on the offensive without becoming truly incisive. Liefering, over time, slowly pushed forward and immediately scored the equalizer with one of their first chances.

Miha Matjasec dribbled into the penalty area all the way to the byline. From there, he intended to pass the ball into the middle, but just like Wels' goal, the ball found its way into the net (31.). The teams then went into the break with the score tied.

Disallowed goal and red card

At the start of the second half, Wels was awarded a free-kick on the right edge of the penalty area following a handball. While the Salzburgers expected a cross, Christopher Wernitznig played the ball back to Malinowski, who unleashed a shot from about twenty meters, restoring Hertha's lead (50.).

Afterwards, the Upper Austrians remained on the offensive, but Liefering once again found the net. Jakob Zangerl scored after a pass from Jakob Werner, but the presumed goalscorer was offside during the decisive pass.

Nevertheless, the "Young Bulls" were better in the game afterwards, but then came a bitter moment in the 75th minute. Mayker Palacios, who had only been substituted in ten minutes earlier, received a yellow-red card for a too-hard tackle, weakening Liefering. Wels capitalized on their numerical advantage for their third goal.

Isa Drammeh took the ball and sprinted almost the entire length of the field to the goal, where he calmly slotted it in for a 3-1 lead.

Liefering, however, did not give up and reduced the deficit to 2-3 in the 85th minute with a goal from Julian Hussauf. Even after that, they created another dangerous chance in front of goal, but Wels narrowly held on for the win.
