Can this France team even be stopped?

The "Equipe Tricolore" advances to their third consecutive World Cup semi-final and dreams of the next world title. Mbappé and Dembélé work their magic.

Game number six, win number six!

The top favorite deservedly reaches the semi-finals of a World Cup for the third time in a row. The "Equipe Tricolore" comfortably defeated Morocco, who are sixth in the world rankings, 2-0 and once again underlined their exceptional position in world football.

"We set ourselves the task of winning. The road is still long, and it will get tougher. But we are ready," declared match-winner Kylian Mbappe, sending a direct message to the competition.

Enough chances up front - almost rock-solid at the back

Although France's play was not spectacular for long stretches, their success was never seriously in danger. Morocco found few attacking solutions and rarely managed to pose a threat over 90 minutes.

The French, however, created enough opportunities to make the result even clearer. In the first half, Mbappé initially missed a penalty, but after the break, the Real Madrid superstar scored a spectacular goal to give them the lead (60th minute).

"A missed penalty, missed chances - but when you have Kylian, you don't need to worry too much. We are where we want to be," praised head coach Didier Deschamps his captain.

For Mbappé, it was already his eighth goal at this World Cup. With it, he once again drew level with Lionel Messi. Overall, the 27-year-old now has 20 World Cup goals in just 20 appearances – leaving him just one goal behind Messi.

Just six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé sealed the deal with another long-range shot from the edge of the box (66th minute).

While Dembélé scored his fifth World Cup goal, Mbappé celebrated for the eighth time. This makes the two attacking stars the first duo since 2002 to be so prolific in front of goal at a World Cup.

At that time, this feat was achieved by the Brazilian duo Ronaldo (8 goals) and Rivaldo (5 goals), who ultimately led the "Seleção" to their fifth World Cup title.

Didier Deschamps: The Record-Breaking Coach

Didier Deschamps can also continue to dream of a second World Cup triumph as the French head coach. Against Morocco, he celebrated his 20th victory at a World Cup – more than any other coach before him.

"Three times in a row in the semi-finals, you have to achieve that first, even with a number of great players," Deschamps emphasized.

So far, no team has found an effective way to stop this French selection. In the past two World Cups, only Argentina managed to knock France out of the tournament – and that was only in the 2022 final.

Only Germany achieved even more

With their third consecutive semi-final appearance, the "Equipe Tricolore" once again underlines its exceptional quality. Previously, only Germany had reached a World Cup semi-final four times in a row between 2002 and 2014.

In the quest for their third World Cup title, France is now also counting on the support of their own fans once again.

Deschamps also had words of praise for this: "We are in a bubble here, even when France celebrates. The players see it as their duty to make the fans happy. We managed that quite well today. Now we are in the semi-finals."

Hard to Beat

France currently appears to be the most complete team in the tournament: defensively stable, individually outstanding in attack, and ice-cold in decisive moments.

If the competition wants to stop the defending champions, an extraordinary performance will likely be needed – because this "Equipe Tricolore" continues its unwavering march towards the next final.
