Kapfenberg Hands Blau-Weiß First Loss of the Season

Blau-Weiß Linz fails to win for the first time this season.

The Linzers lost 1:2 to Kapfenberger SV in the 5th round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. The Upper Austrians were dominant throughout, but KSV ruthlessly capitalized on their chances.

Blau-Weiß picked up where they left off in recent weeks from the start. They took control from the outset and had a good chance from a corner kick as early as the fourth minute.

After that, the Linzers remained dominant but without creating real clear-cut chances. It wasn't until after a good 20 minutes that it became dangerous again, with Varesi-Strauss heading over the bar from close range.

Penalty for Kapfenberg, Red Card for Köllner

Although the Bundesliga relegated team dominated, Kapfenberg held their own well. Marinovic tested Blau-Weiß keeper Oelz with a shot, who couldn't hold onto the ball. While trying to regather it, he brought a Styrian player down, and the referee consequently awarded a penalty.

Michael Köllner was not satisfied with the decision and was sent off with a red card to the stands.

However, the joy for the Linzers was short-lived. Just five minutes after the equalizer, KSV captain Miskovic restored the lead with a perfectly placed long-range shot (64').

Subsequently, the Bundesliga relegated team pressed even harder for another equalizer, but the Upper Austrians finished too imprecisely in the final third. Thus, they had to drop points for the first time this season.

Despite the defeat, Blau-Weiß remains top of the table. Kapfenberg, with their first points of the season, can improve their standing to 15th place.
